The rewards of drawing & painting go far beyond creating art of one's own.
The study heightens awareness, sensitivity, confidence and the ability to think spatially.
One begins to find beauty in the most surprising places. The everyday world
suddenly seems more alive.
It's my opinion that a teacher should do a lot of listening. Each student is unique,
so it's important to read and intuit a developing artist as they sort through this process,
and tailor the message. It is the opposite of a "one size fits all" approach" to learning.
Each bit of advice is presented as a recommended next step, rather than a criticism.
One of my favorite themes is how the very best artists, visual or otherwise, are capable
of striking just the right balance between control and freedom. Helping you find this balance
is what it's all about.
I have been teaching private and group classes in drawing & painting in New York City,
New Jersey and the Hudson Valley since 1992. I typically visit students in their homes
or studios; you are also welcome to work in my studio if convenient.
Presently I offer classes to one student at a time. This allows me to give the artist
my full attention or work alongside him/her on a demonstration. Classes may be scheduled
